Meet Dr. Taruffi
Music Psychologist
I am an interdisciplinary music researcher and music psychology expert, working at the intersection of psychology, aesthetics and neuroscience. My academic background spans both sciences and humanities. I have an M.Sc. in Music, Mind & Brain from Goldsmiths, University of London, an M.A. in Aesthetics and a B.A. in Theoretical Philosophy, both from the University of Florence. After receiving my Ph.D. in Psychology from the Cluster of Excellence “Languages of Emotion” at the Free University of Berlin, I held various research and teaching positions in a number of international institutions including the Free University of Berlin, the Humboldt University of Berlin, in Germany, and Durham University in the UK. I currently work as Assistant Professor at the Academy of Music (School of Creative Arts) at Hong Kong Baptist University.

Aside from academia, I have been collaborating with artists and sound therapists to strengthen connections and the exchange of practices between art/music, science and therapy. I am also committed to sharing my expertise with the general public of music listeners, and besides scientific conferences and events, I have given several talks at music/art festivals. I believe this knowledge should be open to everyone, not just confined to the walls of academia. By sharing my expertise with the general public, I hope to inspire others to appreciate the transformative power of music and its potential to improve our lives.
